The Midwest Migration of Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are proving to be avid travelers, with several recent reports detailing an increase of infestations in cities across the Midwest. Infestations were up in Ohio last month, with hundreds of cases being reported in Franklin county where Columbus and Ohio State are located. The problem has become so widespread that the Ohio Department of Agriculture submitted a request to the Environmental Protection Agency last month, asking they lift the ban they had previously placed in the 1990s on Propoxur, a drug which is said to cause nausea or vomiting if inhaled. And not just Ohio, but bed bugs are making headlines in Michigan too, where they have hit certain dorms and buildings at Wayne State University. Though it may feel like it at times, it looks like New York is not the only city where the bed bugs are biting.
